HSBC GEMs Investor Forum-Commodities:why politics matter session
The inaugural HSBC Global Emerging Market Investor Forum is taking place on5-6 June and includes 70 corporates, 13 experts and 40 HSBC analysts from aroundthe world. In the “Commodities: why politics matter” session, panellists included Ian Shapiro,Director of the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, Yale University;Sipho Pityana, Chairman, AngloGold Ashanti; Timothy Frye, Chair of the Departmentof Political Science, Columbia University; and John Welch, Chief Economist, LatinAmerica and Brazil, HSBC Securities. Questions were answered about the outlookfor South Africa, Russia, and Brazil, given upcoming general elections in all threecountries in 2018 and 2019.
