Hong Kong Stock Market Summary

China will launch a new round of quantitative easing, according to media reports. Hong Kong stocks advanced with the Mainland markets. The HSI opened up 184 pts and once hit 28,588, eventually closing at 28,433, up 372 pts. The main board turnover was HK$190.9bn.

Oil shares advanced. SINOPEC CORP (386) jumped 7.2% to HK$7.63, and became the top gainer of the HSI. PETROCHINA (857) and CNOOC (883) rose 6.7% and 2.3%. It was said that HSBC (5) may dispose of its UK retail banking business, driving up its share price by 3.6% to HK$76.45. Movies and entertainment shares performed well. ORANGE SKY GH (1132) surged 29.9% to HK$1. PEGASUS ENT (1326) soared 27.9%. HKTV (1137) jumped 11.6% to HK$3.47. MENGNIU DAIRY (2319) fell 1.9% to HK$42.1, the steepest loss of the HSI.
