Hong Kong Stock Market Summary
HSBC Apr’s China manufacturing PMI was worse than expected. The HSI once hit 28,213 and retreated afterwards, closing at 27,827, down 106 pts. The main board turnover was HK$191.8bn.
Insurance providers decline. PING AN (2318) sank 3% to HK$109.1, and became the top loser of the HSI. Macau gaming shares remained weak. SANDS CHINA (1928) fell 2.5% to HK$31.8, as its quarter results missed estimates. WYNN MACAU (1128) and MGM CHINA (2282) fell 2.3% and 2.9%. Rare earth shares advanced. CHINA RARE EARTH (769) soared 25% to HK$1.8. CITIC DAMENG (1091) jumped 5.3%. HKEX (388) once hit record high of HK$305.6, and closed at 296.8, up 0.8%.
